A few days ago as we walked into Whole Foods, my daughter gave me an idea for a fun Christmas surprise. As soon as we entered the store she exclaimed, “Mommy look how beautiful it is in here!” Of course, with a few other things on my mind during this busy holiday season, I was oblivious to the sparkly snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. But she was truly impressed and couldn’t stop talking about it. Her excitement was so sweet and gave me an idea. What if she could wake up to a similar scene on Christmas morning in her own room?
So yesterday I secretly went and bought a bunch of snowflake decorations. I tested out my idea by hanging them from her ceiling with fishing line and wall adhesive. Here’s the result:
Luckily she is a pretty deep sleeper, so the plan is to carry her to our room while I decorate this evening and bring her back once it’s complete. I’m hoping the scene will give her an even more magical wake-up on Christmas morning.
My challenge to you—if you have energy left!—is to do something similar tonight. Hang decorations and/or snowflakes in an unexpected place in your house and enjoy the added excitement tomorrow morning. If there’s a risk your child may wake if you decorate his/her room, choose another room, like the kitchen where you’ll all eat breakfast together or the living room where you’ll enjoy opening gifts.
