Super Easy Apple & Pumpkin Candles!

Apple crisp? Check. Apple slices for snacks? Check. Homemade applesauce? Check. So what to do with all those freshly picked apples still in the fridge? Decorate! Here’s one way we “decorate with apples,” but when the season changes along with the leaves, it’s also a natural step for us to put some festive touches around our home here and there to celebrate autumn. I found this idea on Pinterest, tried it out and just love the color and coziness it adds.

Here’s how we did it:

1. Pick an apple.

2. Cut a round hole in the top. I used a circle cookie cutter.

3. Cut an x inside the circle.

4. Scoop from the stem out to cut all 4 sections removed (be careful not to scrape the outside circle).

5. I then rubbed the hole with lemon juice so it wouldn’t turn brown.

6. Place a votive inside. To avoid fruit flies, melt wax around the outside of the votive to seal the apple.  If you do this, you can skip step 5.

We also made a pumpkin candle! After making this candle, I decided that using candles without glass or plastic containers work best.  The wax naturally melts creating it’s own seal on the apple or pumpkin, so you can skips steps 5 and 6.
